Participating in Sports and Activities Outside of Cottonwood
At Cottonwood Classical, we know that some opportunities—like certain athletic teams and extracurricular activities—may not be offered directly through our programs. Thanks to New Mexico State Law (Senate Bill 789), CCPS students in grades 7–12 have the chance to participate in activities at their neighborhood public school.
If you’re interested in joining a team, club, or activity at your designated public school, you’ll need to complete the Neighborhood School Participation Form before the season starts.
How It Works
- Students must meet all New Mexico Activities Association (NMAA) eligibility requirements, except enrollment at the public school.
- Students can only participate at the public school that serves their home address.
- You may only choose one school per sport or activity season.
- Students must stay in good academic standing at Cottonwood Classical while participating.
What You’ll Need
- Neighborhood School Participation Form with signatures from the head coach or athletic director and the principal at your neighborhood school.
- Full season schedule of practices, games, and performances.
- All forms must be submitted before the first day of practice or participation.
Cottonwood Classical will do its best to accommodate early dismissals for practices or events when necessary, but academics must remain the top priority. Release times will only be approved for activities outlined on the submitted schedule.
