Amarilis (Elise) Matteo, is starting her first year at CCPS in the Visual Arts
Department. She has nearly two decades of experience in Arts Education in a
variety of settings including public and charter schools, community centers,
museums, and arts organizations. She spent several years living in New
Jersey where she was both an instructor and the Arts Education Director for
the Arts Council of Princeton. In her time as an Arts Educator she has had the
opportunity to collaborate with students and organizations to create several
public murals including ceramic tile and painted. She has also worked with
the UNM Arts Education Graduate program in mentoring student teachers
and is an active member of the New Mexico Arts Education Assosiation
where she presented in the fall 2024 conference.
A native of New Mexico, she completed her MA in Art Education with
distinction at the University of New Mexico with an emphasis in Art and
Ecology and a BFA in painting at New Mexico State University. When not
making and teaching art, she enjoys time with her family, gardening and
practicing yoga. As an Art teacher, her philosophy emphasizes art making as
fundamentally a process of ongoing discovery.
