Quilimaca Padilla has been teaching mathematics since 2005. She holds a Level III teaching license in New Mexico with endorsements in Secondary Mathematics and Modern and Classical Languages (primarily Spanish).
This year, Ms. Padilla is teaching Algebra 1 and IB Mathematics: Applications and Interpretation Year 1. She enjoys teaching students at various levels and helping them build both confidence and curiosity in mathematics. In her classes, she uses a variety of teaching strategies including graphing calculators, peer collaboration, small-group work, real-life application problems, guided notes, seminars, and both in-class and out-of-class practice.
Her Algebra 1 students focus on developing foundational algebra skills through solving equations, modeling real-world scenarios, interpreting graphs, and reasoning mathematically.
In IB Math AI Year 1, her 11th-grade students explore Topics 1 through 4 of the IB syllabus and begin developing their math internal assessment skills. Her advisory class is also in Year 1 of the IB Diploma Programme, where they are beginning to explore their CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) experiences and conduct interviews.
Outside the classroom, Ms. Padilla enjoys spending time with her family, running, and playing sand volleyball with her teammates once a week. She is currently working toward becoming a National Board Certified Teacher in Mathematics within the next three years.
In addition to her teaching roles, Ms. Padilla also serves as the BYU credit recovery facilitator at Cottonwood Classical Preparatory School, assisting students with course enrollment and credit recovery needs.
